Skyline Distributing was founded in 1998 which was the same year Hemp became a legal agriculture crop in Canada. The feeling in general amongst hemp investors back then was one of trepidation not wondering if, but when the large conglomerates were going to try and shut down this fledgling industry with so much potential.

One active participant of the "anti hemp" rally (though there were and still are several) was a large chemical company that manufactured herbicides and pesticides. They vigorously lobbied Health Canada. Their argument was that "the THC in hemp would cause extensive harm to mother and child" and health in general.

Those of us who had been in the business since the early days knew of course that this was fiction and it was also apparent that these companies were spreading these false accusations to satisfy their share holders and to enhance their bottom lines.

By early 2000-2001, a lot more farms were coming on line to grow hemp and before too long there were hundreds and hundreds of hectares growing hemp without the need for cancer causing herbicides and pesticides.

It seemed as though every spring more farms were looking into and were getting involved in growing this valuable and maintenance free crop and as such many more farmers were spending less of their hard earned money to spray chemicals on their fields.

Midway into 2001 the Toronto Globe and Mail printed a conclusive report filed by Health Canada stating that it was indeed "herbicides and pesticides that would cause harm to mother and child" and health in general. It was a breath of fresh air to finally hear common sense in a world abundant with nonsense and misinformation and it was thanks to this report that we were able to look even further into the future.
